Starter Pinions
Hello,
I am hoping that some of you may be able to advise me of details of the starter pinions on Toyota Camrys.
I notice that models made this century have starters fitted at the rear of the flywheel and thus rotate in a clockwise direction.
I have a 1912 Renault that I am planning to fit a starter to, and what I have seen of your starters online indicate that some also have the exposed pinion. I already have fitted a ring gear from a big block Ford on my flywheel, but will need to check that the pinion is compatible or have a new one made.
My query is this.
Do Camry's have different ring gears and pinions for different models or are they all the same over the last thirty years?
Can anybody steer the to a site that might provide the answer?
Any advice would be much appreciated
Cheers

It appears Camry may have had the same ring gear part number between 1987 to 2016. The drive gear part numbers changed and the usage years overlap.Suggest you go to an online Toyota dealer parts website. Search on a year/model/engine type/etc of car you are interested and find ring gear and starter drive parts. Once done clicking on the part type (say DRIVE) should reveal what Toyota models that drive fits.
If you click on the actual part number of the drive you should see what years that part number was used on years of Camry.
Below is an example of info found for Camry..
Drive part number X used from 1991-2005
Drive part number Y used from 1984-1988
Drive part number Z used from 1987-1994
Ring gear part number used from 1987 to 2016
The drive part number changes while the ring gear appears the same. Assume if same ring gear then same drive tooth count throughout the years but the drive was changed slightly.
