If the coolant temp is high, the fans should turn on and stay on until the temp cools down.

As stated when engine at idle for a prolonged time the fans should turn on/off to maintain the correct coolant temp.

Remove radiator cap when coolant cold, start engine and as the coolant temp increases watch the coolant circulate.

Remember there is a temp sensor and a temp switch. The sensor is for the dash gauge and switch for the fans. If the gauge is reading high the switch should be on and with this the fans.

The issue is trying to correlate the temp gauge reading with the actions of the fans.

We drove the car today it was a reasonably warm day here in Florida 78f deg. The car ran really well a lot better then it has in a while no spluttering as it did sometimes. We were out and about just local travel for about 1 hour no issues to report. We will keep you posted fingers crossed we might of solved the fan issue

Here is an update

Wednesday we took the car out it was a 19 min drive on I4 the car ran very well and the temp gauge stayed in the mid normal range. On the way home though traffic was pretty slow especially near the Disney World exit to I4. We were off I4 and nearly home slower traffic and we noticed the dash temp gauge going up, we made it home and checked the temp with the thermometer it was reading 234 with steam coming out. the AC was on so the fans was going but when we turned the AC off the fans stopped so I unclipped the fan switch connector and they were going so fast the car temp on the dash also started cooling down we kept it going till the temp on the dash was back to normal.

Today we changed the fan switch on the radiator ... but since we could not jack the car up to get at it from underneath and we would have to take the radiator out to change the switch and we were not 100% sure there wasn't a blockage we changed out the hole radiator and radiator hoses. We will go for a drive in the next few days ...... fingers crossed we have it fixed!

we went for a drive today its was fairly warm out around 82f we drove around for about 2 hours making sure to hit places that we usually avoid because of bad traffic so we were stop starting bumper crawling and so far I'm happy to report there has been no repeat overheating incidents. the big test will be Tuesday though we we have to go to the other side of Orlando for an appointment. Fingers crossed

Well it was a pretty warm day today close to 90f we were out all day no problems on the way to our appointment and on the way home the traffic was supper heavy, we bumper crawled nearly all the way home on the interstate took about 2 hours in that traffic and I'm happy to say no problems what so ever with the overheating. If it was going to overheat today's trip would of been the trigger. We are really confident the car is fixed

Thank you for your guidance we appreciate you helpful information and pointing us in the right direction. If by chance our car is just tricking us to letting our guard down we will post back if we need more help again thank you
