Default 1997 Camry Neutral safety switch broken bolt HELP

While replacing a malfunctioning NSS, I sheared the tip off the control shaft. The linkage nut was rusted completely on and took the first 1/4" off with it. Is there anything other than replacing the transmission that can be done?

It's a 1997 Camry 2.2 liter

The shaft the shift lever is bolted to?

If you can find a replacement shaft the job can be done by dropping the trans pan.

If you are clever can drill and tap a hole in the end of the shaft for a bolt.
