The radio can have a built-in amp or a remote amp.

If a built-in amp, the radio and amp are self contained. The radio connects directly to the speakers and 12v power supply.

If having a remote amp, the radio and remote amp work together. It sends a preamp signal to the remote amp. The remote amp connects to the speakers. The 12v power supply connects to the remote amp. The remote amp then sens this power to the radio. The radio controls the remote amp such as amp on/off and mute..

Car stock Amplifier, located behind the glove box.

The Amplifier with the strange cords that was plugged into the radio.. Does anyone know a aftermarket harnness that connects into this but with the aftermarket cords?

the left side i counted a 14-pin oem, what I need is a aftermarket harness to hook into the stock Amplifier with after market cords the it will be easy..

Would any of these work?

14-pin OEM harness
15-pin OEM harness

I've searched multiple sites and forums... seems that this wire coding does not match what normally comes in a 1998 xle camry..
normal coding is:
Audio wiring diagram to help replace Toyota Camry factory radio stereo - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

any ideas on which wire is which?
Hi! I know this is response is 10 years late but I just got a 1997 Toyota Camry LE, wanted to swap out the stereo, and had the same problem.

The wiring harness you showed in the picture is not the one you want to work with. Further back into the console, on the right side, there are two harnesses with the correct wires. Unplug them, and google a 1997 toyota camry radio wiring diagram (I used 12Volts’ diagram), attach your new wiring harness for your stereo, and it will be good to go.

I attached a couple images so you can see where the correct harnesses are. The harness that’s half cut and stripped was the same harness you had a problem with- I ended up taping the ends and shoving it in the back, as you don’t need it.

Hope this helps anyone who needs it!

here are where you can find the correct harnesses

here are the correct harnesses that you will need to cut, strip, and attach to your new stereo

here is the incorrect harness that I was working on originally, the one you were confused about. Forget this one
