Default Engine Problems

The car is a 1993 Camry XLE. With the 3VZ engine.

This problem started several months ago. When I would first start up my car and try to take of, the engine would sorta lope. When I gave it gas, it would go up to 2000 RPM, drop down to 800, than back up rapidly. After the car warmed up, it would dissapear.
As time went by it started to do it even when it was warm. Than if I tried to floor it off the line, it wouldnt go anywhere.
Finally it started making a tick noise, than a day latter a real loud clunk noise.
The "clunk" noise soundslike theres a gap between 2 metal pieces, and they hit on every stroke.
It sounds like its coming from cylinder 2. I took the valve cover off hoping to find something broken but no luck. Whatever it is, its definitly coming from the top, front of the engine.
