Default Japanese 2.4 engine v.s. North American 2.4 engine

Hello, checking to see if anyone knows if the Japanese version of the 2azfe 2.4 L has had the same issues as the North American 2azfe 2.4L engine has? As far as oil consumption and head gasket failure? Looking to buy a engine from Japan because my 02 camry LE is buring through oil fast with 125k on it. Thanks!

I know this was a couple years ago, but did you ever find out if the swap is compatible? I am currently having the same question.

Never did the swap. Got rid of the car. I don't think the swap would be an issue. I was checking to see if the Japan model burned oil like the American model. From what I learned...they did burn too. Hope this helps.

Might inquire if Toyota improved the engine to eliminate the problems. Toyota's service bulletins about the oil burning reference a vehicle model and year range not all years and models.

I swapped mine recently and the ecu does not mate up. Had to swap a few components out like starter. Car will start but will not stay running. There are differences in the emissions between Japan and America. I am currently trying to figure out what those differences are. (I rolled my 06 base Camry 3 years ago and saved the motor and trans. Friends daughter blew the motor in her 03 camry LE. I didn’t think to look if they were the same manufacture country.)

We got it swapped out for the Japanese engine, I am not sure what had to be done because my mechanic did it but it worked great up until we ended up getting in a wreck and the car was sadly totaled
