Default 2009 (and others) Camry Oil Consumption Problem

Looking at a 2009 Camry for purchase. 48,000 miles. Is there any way my mechanic could test to see if it's prone to have the oil consumption problem?

Thank you!
Don

If you are you concerned about the 4-cylinders engine oil consumption, then perhaps not much. Might be able to check for increased blow by.

Unfortunately the increased oil consumption tend show up after say 60000 miles.

Toyota performs an oil consumption test. This to fill with new oil then seal the engines oil fill and drain ports to prevent tempering. Then having the owner return after a specified miles driven. The test is outline in a service bulletin T-SB-0158-14.

Toyota does have an enhanced warranty but this has a year and mileage limit. See attached.
