Default engine stalling

my 1999 2.2 has had what seems to be an I.A.C. valve problem. its been acting up since i bought it 9 months ago. it had 150,000 when i bought it. it would stall after about 30 minute ride maybe once a month or a week, intermittently. then would restart and run fine. exhibited symptoms of a bad iac valve. i must have sprayed it 20 times through that little square hole in the throttle body. finally replaced it last week and stalled again 3 days later. old one moved freely. what do i do next?

no check engine light. just put code reader on. shows no codes. still acts like faulty iac valve. you can feel it stumble slightly while driving it. then if you let rpms go beneath around 1,000 rpm, it will stall. replacement of iac , no change. might go a week, then happens again. any ideas?

Engine hot or cold?

If stumbling when driving and stalling check EGR valve operation.

An open EGR valve at idle can cause the engine to quit.

engine hot. can keep it running by giving it gas to keep rpm's above 1,000. happens occasionally. will start back up and run fine. really thought it was iac, but replacement didnt solve it. how can i test egr valve? thanks.

A sticky EGR valve can be difficult to diagnose and is typically the result of carbon build up in the valve.

Search the internet for sites on cleaning EGR valve.

Could be a bad coolant temp sensor for the computer.

Hey urbs00007, did ever figure out the problem? My daughter has a 98 2.2 with 167,000 miles on it. The car runs smoother than any 4 banger I have ever listened to. It has a similar issue that is driving me nuts. It just dies, can be sitting idle in the driveway and die. She can be driving it and it just die, it starts right back up and away she goes. Sometimes two or three times in the morning and then its fine. sometimes on her way home at night once or twice and then it runs perfect. I am ready to buy a fuel pump, we have already done the coil packs that's what the code was showing.
