Default 1990 Camry help question

I have a 1990 Camry that will not start for 1 hour if I drive it a short distance and park. Battery is fine, alternator is fine. It also happens if I drive a longer distance. In other words, I drive a mile or so, turn the car off, come back before 1 hours passes and it will not turn over. If I wait an hour, it will turn over fine. Can any one give me some suggestions. The mechanics want me to spend money on everything but the problem. Thanks.

Robert

4 cyl engine or V6

if it will not turn over ( no crank at all )
will be starter or ignition fault

if you do have crank over ... will be spark or compression related

check starter relay

check that you have
12 volts through the starter cable from the battery positive terminal to the starter
or the starter solenoid itself

ignition assembly faulty

i'd say starter or solenoid as above, not so likely to be the coil or would stop while driving then can restart after waiting sometimes till real bad. Its not a loss if you replace electrical parts if they turn out not to be the problem, just better reliability usually.
