Heat problem

Default Heat problem

97 Camry has heat at idle,but driving temp gauge goes down and no heat,and it's cold out---thanks

Check for a stuck open thermostat. This item controls engine coolant temp which also circulates through the heater core.

Yes, if having some mechanical skills a DIY.

The radiator will need to be drained of coolant. Before starting the job obtain service manual info. Perhaps a Haynes manual, your library may have manuals, search internet for "changing thermostat + your engine model." If 4 cylinder a 5S-FE if V6 engine a 1MZ-FE.

Also check the current coolant level in the radiator (engine cold) and make sure the overflow reservoir is at the required level. Low coolant can also cause your problems.
