Replacing Battery Without 12 Volt Backup Supply
#11
The driving is just on surface streets so engine RPM remains fairly low. Location is Southern California with mild climate. No alerts about the battery or charging system. Electrical load is very low with just radio and the fan on low.
I also feel that there is probably nothing wrong with the battery or charging system. It looks like I will just have to drive the car more frequently with longer trips or use the battery maintainer. I'll plan on getting the battery and alternator checked at the next scheduled service.
I happened to run across a forum thread on the Honda Dual Mode Charging system. One individual had his battery checked by the dealer during routine service and was told that it was only 57% charged! Something similar could be happening in my case. The battery likely drifted down from full charge over many months. At that point the parasitic current drain could have discharged the battery when the car was not driven for two weeks.
Thanks for all of your help on this thread.
