Update...A couple of weeks ago I was close to an oil change, so I added SeaFoam to the oil. I added about 8oz. I changed the oil a few days later. No change in the oil consumption. I just add 1/2qt about once a week. I use Walmart brand 5W-30 Full Synthetic. Other than that, it runs fine. I did try Lucas oil stabilizer last year some time, also...no change....Just used to it now.....

 

I hate bumping an old thread like this, since it's not a polite thing to do, but I did want to add my 2 cents for whoever comes across this in the feature.

My 2007 Camry with the 2.4 engine went through a phase where the oil consumption was insanely high as well. I always used Mobile 1 oil, 0w20 and do all oil changes myself, and at some point it suddenly started using about a quart every 600 miles!

I went to the dealership, they sealed the engine for the oil check, told me to come back in 1200 miles. I said I would like to come in earlier since I didn't want to run the engine out of oil, so I came back at around 800 miles. Dealership unsealed everything and claimed it didn't use any oil. I drove it off their lot with the dipstick at the full mark, only to find it back at low not 600 miles later. I think they bamboozled me.

I finally switched oil brands for the first time since owning this car, and did my next oil change with Castrol Edge 0w20. Lo and behold, all oil consumption problems have stopped for me. I's been 4200 miles since the last oil change I did, and the dip stick is showing at 3/4 full. Perfect.

This is not an advertisement for Castrol oil at all, but for my Camry the switch has been very good.

 

thx for the info....I've been using WalMart Full Synthetic lately with no change in consumption between that and Mobil1 Synthetic. I'll try the Castrol when I use up my WalMart oil. Thanks for your input....it definitely won't hurt to try....
